Florist's Cineraria
Massed cineraria in magenta and deep violet, each bloom ringed with a white eye against near-black foliage. Signed archival print, framed and ready to hang.
This one is about quantity. Not a single specimen studied closely, but a bed of florist’s cineraria photographed as a mass, filling the frame edge to edge with no ground, no sky and no horizon to steady it.
The colour runs across a narrow band and stays there. Hot magenta through the centre and lower half, deepening to a saturated violet-purple in the upper left, with a few blooms caught between the two. Every flower carries the same marking — a white ring circling a dark chocolate centre packed with tiny florets — and it is that repetition that makes the picture work. Dozens of small white eyes scattered across a field of pink and purple, pulling your gaze around the frame rather than letting it settle anywhere.
The foliage stays almost black. Only a few leaves catch enough light to show their veining, and the gaps between the flowers fall away into shadow. That darkness is what lets the colour sit as strongly as it does. On a wall this photograph reads almost as an abstract, and from a few paces back the individual flowers dissolve into pattern.
It is a piece with genuine presence. It suits a wall that can take colour — a dining room, a stairwell, a reception, a room otherwise finished in neutrals that needs one thing to lift it. It works best large, and it works best alone.
