A small fishing boat sits alone on flat water, moored fore and aft, its mast bare and its lines slack. There is no wind here, no other vessel, and nothing happening beyond the fact of the boat being tied and waiting.

The hull carries most of the colour in the painting — bands of ultramarine and cobalt along the sides, warm ochre at the gunwale, a run of small dark portholes along the length, and a red keel line just visible at the waterline. A round nameplate sits amidships, weathered and hard to read. Two ropes trail from the bow into the water, drawn with a fine, controlled line against the softness of everything around them.

The water and sky are painted wet-on-wash, pale blue bleeding into white with almost no hard edge anywhere. The boat’s reflection breaks apart beneath it in the same soft technique, browns and blues dissolving into the pale surface rather than mirroring the hull exactly.

This is classical watercolour technique used with real control — a controlled, precisely drawn subject held inside a loose, atmospheric wash, so the boat reads as solid while the world around it stays soft. The palette is almost entirely blue, from the deepest tone in the hull to the palest wash in the sky, unified by nothing at all interrupting it.
