Across it, the elements of music reduced to flat shape. Three dark vertical lines and a black disc on the yellow side — strings, and a sound hole, or a record. A cluster of orange quavers floating above. A white and olive triangle cutting across the divide. On the blue side, three golden crescents in a row under two yellow strokes, and a single yellow note outlined in black.

At the bottom, a large black circle ringed in orange with a red centre — the largest form in the painting, and the one that anchors everything above it.

Nothing is modelled. No shadows, no gradients, no texture allowed anywhere. Every shape is laid down flat and sits exactly on the surface, which is what gives the painting its graphic snap. The yellow and blue are near-complementary and the contrast between them does the same work a drumbeat does — it keeps time.

The title names the Indian musical scale, and the painting works the way a scale does: a small set of elements, arranged and rearranged, each one recognisable on its own and different in combination. It is a picture about music rather than a picture of musicians.

Strong, flat colour and clean geometry make this easy to place in modern interiors. It suits a living room, a music room, a studio, a café, a reception or a child’s space — anywhere that can take real colour on the wall.
