Buddha Yantra — Geometric Composition

A square sits inside a circle, painted flat against a ground that moves from teal to midnight blue.

The circle is a single broad ring of gold, laid on thickly enough that the brush marks stay visible. Inside it, a deep crimson square, and across the square four crossed lines in gold flanked by pairs of small dots — a repeating rhythm read from top to bottom. Four points of gold sit outside the square on the blue ground, marking the cardinal directions.

The composition is built on the oldest geometry in Indian art. A circle for the boundless and the cyclical, a square for the ordered and the earthly, the square held within the circle — form contained by the formless. It is the same logic that governs a mandala, a temple plan and a rangoli laid on a doorstep.

The palette is restricted to three colours and does all the work. Crimson advances, blue recedes, gold sits between them and catches whatever light is in the room. Because the forms are flat and symmetrical, the piece reads cleanly from across a room and holds its own on a large wall without clutter.

It suits a puja room, a meditation or yoga space, an entrance hall, a study, or a reception. Symmetrical and centred, it is a natural choice for a wall that needs a single focal point rather than a group.
