The Buddha sits cross-legged, eyes lowered nearly shut, his right hand raised in abhaya mudra — the gesture of fearlessness — while his left rests open in his lap. His curled hair is gathered into the traditional ushnisha at the crown, and his earlobes are drawn long, both marks of the traditional iconography passed down through centuries of Buddhist art.

Behind him, a halo of gold and pale green radiates outward in soft concentric rings, the warmest and brightest passage in the painting. Around it, dense trees in near-black green rise on both sides, their leaves picked out in flecks of bright emerald that catch light against the darkness — a forest at the edge of night, with the halo doing the work a sunrise would.

The palette moves from deep shadow at the edges to warm gold at the centre, and that movement is the whole composition: darkness giving way to a single, steady source of light, exactly where the figure sits.

The robe is painted in a single, confident red, its folds built with visible brushwork rather than smoothed flat, giving the drapery real weight against the otherwise still, symmetrical pose.

This is a calm, contemplative painting suited to a puja room, meditation or yoga space, a study, an entrance hall, or any wall that asks for stillness.
