Five ways to own original art on a budget
There is more than one way to a real original. Pick a route to see what it looks like and how it keeps the cost down.
Small originals. Size is the quickest way to a lower price. A small study gives you a real original, signed by the artist, for far less than a wall-scale piece, and two or three small works hang well together on a ledge or a shelf. Browse original paintings
Works on paper. Ink and charcoal drawings are made with few materials and a great deal of skill, and they usually cost less than work on canvas. Mounted and framed under glass, they hang as well as any painting. See ink pen drawings
Photography prints. Signed, editioned prints on archival paper from Adi Photography. A photograph is made to be printed, so the real thing starts well below the price of a painting, and large formats are there when you want scale. Shop photography prints
Commission. A piece made for your wall, from ₹5,000. Standard sizes run from 12×18 to 36×48 inches, or choose your own, and framing is optional, which lets you set the budget. Start a commission
Rent first. Start with the first month’s rent plus a refundable deposit. Keep it, swap it after three months, or return it — and if you buy, half the rent you have paid is credited. See art rental
What “affordable” means here
Lower prices without lowering the standard. These are the rules every piece is held to.
Original, not reproduced
Every painting and drawing is made by the artist and signed by hand. No posters, no reproductions, no AI-generated images.
One honest price
The price you see includes shipping, which is free across India, so there are no extras at the end.
Start small
Small works and works on paper let you begin a collection now, and add larger pieces when you are ready.
Pay in two parts
Pay in full by UPI, or 50% in advance with the balance after the artwork reaches you.
Original or print?
A small original is better value than a big print.
A poster is cheaper on the day. But what you are paying for matters more than the number, and the gap between a real piece and a reproduction shows within a year or two.
- It is one of one. The print on your wall hangs on thousands of others. The original hangs on yours alone.
- It rewards a closer look. Layered paint and hand-drawn line have depth that a flat reproduction cannot match.
- It keeps its character. Cheap paper and inks tend to fade and curl. A signed original, mounted and framed, is made to last.
- It has a story. A named artist, a studio, and a certificate of authenticity.
- It costs less than you think. Small works, drawings and photography prints start well below what most people expect.
Original. Layered paint with real depth, and a surface that changes as the light moves across it. Made once, by one hand.
Mass-market print. A flat reproduction built from a regular grid of tiny dots, identical to every other copy of the same image.

How to tell it is real
Ask four things: who made it, is it one of one, can I see the artist’s profile, and is the description complete with a price that includes everything?
On House of Arts, each one has an answer on the listing.
Before you buy
Is affordable art really original?
Yes. Every painting and drawing on House of Arts is an original made by the artist and signed by hand. We do not list posters, reproductions or AI-generated images. Photography is supplied as editioned, signed prints from the photographer’s own work.
What can I get on a small budget?
Photography prints start from ₹1,600, a commissioned piece starts from ₹5,000, and small originals and drawings sit well below wall-scale paintings. Renting lets you start with just the first month’s rent plus a refundable deposit.
Can I pay in parts?
Yes. Pay in full by UPI, or 50% in advance with the balance after the artwork reaches you. Send us the transaction ID and we verify it personally before confirming your order.
Can I rent instead of buying?
Yes. After three months you can keep the work, swap it or return it, and if you buy, half the rent you have paid is credited against the price.
Can I commission something small?
Yes. Commissions start from ₹5,000, in sizes from 12×18 to 36×48 inches or a custom size, with framing optional. Send a photograph, a subject or just the wall.
Is shipping really free?
Yes, on every order across India. Orders are confirmed within 24 hours and dispatched with tracked delivery.
